Overview

Level AA is the standard most accessibility laws require, including the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Pro adds 30+ Level AA checks on top of the 22 Level A checks in the free version, giving you complete WCAG 2.2 AA coverage.

This is a Pro feature. Upgrade to Pro to enable Level AA checks.

What Level AA Adds

Level A covers the minimum. Level AA raises the bar for usability:

Level AA Check Categories

Enhanced Contrast

  • Non-text contrast — UI components and graphics must have 3:1 contrast against adjacent colors
  • Focus indicator contrast — Visible focus indicators must meet contrast requirements
  • Input border contrast — Form field boundaries must be distinguishable

WCAG: 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast

Text Spacing

  • Line height — Content must remain readable when line height is set to 1.5x font size
  • Paragraph spacing — Must handle 2x font size paragraph spacing
  • Letter spacing — Must handle 0.12x font size letter spacing
  • Word spacing — Must handle 0.16x font size word spacing

Content Reflow

  • Horizontal scrolling — Content must reflow at 320px width without horizontal scrolling
  • Responsive containers — Fixed-width containers that break at narrow widths

Focus Indicators

  • Visible focus — Interactive elements must have a visible focus indicator
  • Focus not obscured — Focus indicators must not be hidden behind other content
  • Minimum focus area — Focus indicators must meet minimum size requirements

Error Handling

  • Error suggestions — When input errors are detected, suggestions for correction must be provided
  • Error prevention — Forms that submit legal or financial data must be reversible or confirmable

Consistent Navigation

  • Navigation order — Repeated navigation across pages must appear in the same relative order
  • Consistent identification — Components with the same function must be identified consistently

Labels and Instructions

  • Visible labels match accessible names — The visible text of a control must be part of its accessible name
  • Descriptive headings and labels — Headings and labels must describe the content or purpose they relate to

Motion and Animation

  • Motion actuation — Functions triggered by device motion must have alternative controls
  • Animation from interactions — Users must be able to disable non-essential animation

Using Level AA Checks

Once Pro is activated, Level AA checks run automatically alongside Level A checks. No configuration needed.
